Teacher Development & Continuing Education Symposium
July 12-20, 2018 in Monrovia, Liberia
Africa Community Exchange, Inc. (ACE) is pleased to host the 2018 Teacher Development &
Continuing Education Symposium from July 12-20 in Monrovia, Liberia at St. Teresa’s Convent
Conference Center. This year’s symposium aims to provide training for Kakata Rural Teacher Training
Institute instructors, school principals, and 80 community-based, primary school teachers who are
seeking pathways to teaching certification.
The training will focus on Basic Skills Proficiency: Language Arts, Special Education, Mathematics,
and Science (grades K-6) – using the Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines to deliver subject
matter training on content, lesson plan development, and resource materials. Personal development on
self-management and social skills (including content on behavioral change, ethics, civic engagement,
and personal growth) will be an aspect of the symposium as well. The training will highlight how to
engage students with hands-on exercises, small group activities, and class discussions to help reduce

continuing education symposium will direct much needed support and resources to enhance the skills of
existing primary school teachers working in low-income, community-based schools. This program
recognizes the plight of the existing, non-government teachers and wants to contribute to the
development of this population.
